Would you like funding to help save the real places that tell the real stories of your community? Are you a member of a historical organization? If so, then read on!

The 2009/2010 Save Our History Grant Cycle is now available. This grant program provides funding to history organizations that partner with schools on a local community preservation project.

Heritage Tourism Friends—

The Texas Historical Commission is now accepting applications for the History Museum Grants. Please help us spread the news of this grant opportunity to the local history museums in your community. Small history museums can apply for up to $1,000 for collections-related preservation and conservation projects. TPWD administers the National Recreational Trails Fund in Texas under the approval of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). This federally funded program receives its funding from a portion of federal gas taxes paid on fuel used in non-highway recreational vehicles. The grants can be up to 80% of project cost with a maximum of $200,000 for non-motorized trail grants and currently there is not a maximum amount for motorized trail grants (call 512-912-7124 for motorized trail grant funding availability). Funds can be spent on both motorized and non-motorized recreational trail projects such as the construction of new recreational trails, to improve existing trails, to develop trailheads or trailside facilities, and to acquire trail corridors. The Preserve America matching-grant program provides funding to support preservation efforts through heritage tourism, education, and historic preservation planning. Eligible applicants include Designated Preserve America Communities and Neighborhoods, State Historic Preservation Offices, Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, and Certified Local Governments in the process of applying for Preserve America Community Designation.

Applications are due June 30, 2008.

Save America’s Treasures

Fiscal Year 2008 grant applications for the Save America's Treasures grant program and the Preserve America grant program are now available.

Save America's Treasures matching grants are awarded for preservation and/or conservation work on nationally significant intellectual and cultural artifacts and historic structures and sites. Eligible applicants include Federal (including NPS), state, local, and tribal government entities, and nonprofit organizations. Applications are due May 20, 2008. Tourism Cares - Worldwide Grant Program - added 8/07

Tourism Cares’ Worldwide Grant Program distributes charitable grants to worthy tourism-related non-profit organizations worldwide for capital improvements or programs as outlined below. The 2007 Worldwide Grant Program goals for grantmaking call for a balanced distribution to U.S. and non-U.S. recipients. Typical grants are $10,000; However, based on availability of funds, grants up to $100,000 will be considered. The steps to the grant funding process can be found below. Tourism Cares’ Grant Funding Goals and Preferences

Primary consideration is to fund projects and programs, whose goal is:

  • capital improvements that serve to protect, restore, or conserve sites of exceptional cultural, historic, or natural significance, or
  • the education of local host communities and the traveling public about conservation and preservation of sites of exceptional cultural, historical, or natural significance.

Preference is given to organizations with projects or programs that:

  • allow our grant funding to be leveraged to provide increased philanthropic support, through vehicles such as matching grants or challenge grants that have already been secured from an external source.
  • are endorsed by the local, regional, or national tourism office.
  • demonstrate strong support from and involvement of the local community.

Texas Historical Foundation Grants

PURPOSE

The Texas Historical Foundation Grant Program was organized to:

1. Support projects and activities in education, research, archaeology, and
the preservationof Texas history.

2. Sponsor publications and materials relating to Texas history.

3. Encourage activities promoting Texas traditions, values, and patriotic events.

4. Collaborate with state, regional, and local historical groups in strengthening
preservation endeavors.

5. Communicate to the general public the unique role and function of the
Texas Historical Foundation.

Tourism Cares for Tomorrow is a nonprofit organization that benefits society by promoting the responsible use of the world's natural, cultural and historic treasures and supporting education and research to help secure the positive future of travel and tourism worldwide. As part of its mission, Tourism Cares for Tomorrow distributes grants to nonprofit organizations worldwide with one or more of the following goals: to protect, restore, and conserve sites of exceptional natural, cultural, or historic significance; to increase the traveling public's awareness of and involvement in conservation efforts; and/or to promote conservation education within local host communities and to the traveling public. Save our History Grant Program

The History Channel, in collaboration with the American Association for State and Local History and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, is proud to unveil the 2005-2006 Save Our History Grant Application. This year, The History Channel will award $250,000 in Save Our History grants.

History organizations (including museums, historical societies, preservation organizations, historic sites, libraries, archives, and other history organizations) can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to help fund unique, hands-on student projects created to teach students about important aspects of their local history and to actively engage them in the preservation of significant and potentially endangered pieces of their local heritage. Grant applicants should develop a Save Our History project in partnership with a school or youth community group.
