Teague: Burlington-Rock Island Railroad Museum

BIG MIKE

Visitors to the depot and museum can have some fun and tour the museum’s own Baldwin Engine. Known as “Big Mike”, the engine gives the railroad enthusiast a chance to feel like a real train engineer without ever having to leave the station. Housed in the original 1906 Trinity & Brazos Valley Railway depot, the Burlington-Rock Island Railroad Museum explores the rich railway heritage that played such a major role in this Brazos Region’s development. Now listed in the National Register of Historic Places and location of two Texas State Historical Markers, the depot served as division point of the Trinity & Brazos Valley Railway. The depot is located in the community of Teague and accommodated 78 freight trains within a few years of its inauguration and later hosted the “Sam Houston Zephyr”, the state’s first diesel-powered streamline train, and its companion the “Texas Rocket”.
